henry david thoreau society network

Upon successful completion of a four-year undergraduate program, each Henry David Thoreau Scholar becomes a member of the Henry David Thoreau Society for the Environment. Meetings for this alumni group take place periodically and provide an opportunity for the Society members to share their experiences and skills. Approximately 10 Scholars graduate and gain membership each year with an impressive expanse of interests and knowledge. For this reason, their Society is growing stronger as a voice for environmental issues, shaping national discussion, and promoting research activity and scholarly collaboration in global communities.

Our Scholar alumni continue to engage in work that connects what they have learned at home to what is happening on a global scale. Whether researching whale behavior in South America, tracking the bushmeat crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, conducting geological studies in the Gobi Desert, investigating environmental policy in Texas, or creating urban planning designs in New York City, this ensemble continues to lead by example and has unshakable, positive impact.

We advise our alumni: Stay active and keep up with the work of your fellow Scholar graduates. Make the Henry David Thoreau Foundation your resource for environmental inquiry and idea exchange. It's a unique and powerful network of alumni, providing a growing intellectual community for all of our Scholars, past and present.
